Defendant Li Wenguang (18 years old) and 17-year-old man Zhao, both of whom are Secondary Six students, were charged with one count of possession of explosives, claiming that they had the knowledge, possession, custody or control of the explosion at the school on November 27 last year. In the afternoon, Li handed over another packet of chemicals to Zhao. Zhao took it at the lunchtime assembly and was discovered and confiscated by his teacher.

TATP friction and heat will explode

After the school called the police, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Division considered it dangerous. It made a fire test on the spot, emitted a "啵" sound, and a flame of 200 to 300 mm appeared. It was confirmed as TATP after laboratory tests. The prosecution said that TATP was unstable and would explode after friction and heating. It could sever a finger if it weighed more.

The prosecution also said that Li had had suspicious search records on his phone, including searching for strong acids, Huawei ’s Android reset phone system, and weapons homemade clips. He also found that he communicated with Zhao using telegram, describing Zhao as “quite welcoming and proactive”.

Guo Jingxian, Li's representative counsel, described Li as only a curious middle school student, questioning the prosecution's testing of two packets of evidence together, and the size of the foil after it was folded and opened also differed. The prosecution failed to inform the court of the purity of the chemicals. . Zhao's representative lawyer also said that Zhao was just "knowing what to do and so hold back."

Acting Chief Magistrate Gao Weixiong rejected the defendant's application for bail, and the case was held until February 25, and the prosecution is preparing to refer the District Court documents, during which they were remanded in custody.
