(CNN) - There are more than 800 confirmed cases of coronaviruses in the world and the disease continues to expand: at least 9 countries have confirmed cases outside of China.

26 people have died from the virus and while the outbreak continues many wonder how deadly this disease is.

Experts compare it with SARS, a premium coronavirus disease that also caused a cough, fever and cold-like symptoms.

Between 2002 and 2003, SARS killed 774 people and 8,098 cases were reported worldwide. Since 2004 no more patients with this virus have been reported.

Scientists say that coronavirus infectivity is not as strong as SARS, but they have added that the number of infected people is increasing.

A study by researchers in the United Kingdom estimated that the number of infections in Wuhan is still greatly underestimated, and that a real figure would be close to 4,000, based on the spread of the virus to other cities and countries in a relatively short period of time.

The SARS mortality rate was 9.6%, and with data updated as of January 24, the coronavirus mortality rate is 3.1%.
