US authorities have recommended avoiding unnecessary travel to Wuhan, the Chinese city considered the epicenter of the infectious outbreak

The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) has 64 possible cases in the United States of the coronavirus epidemic initiated in China; There are two cases already confirmed, including that of a woman in Chicago who had just traveled from Wuhan, a city considered epicenter of this respiratory disease.

Possible cases have been detected in 22 states, as reported by the director of Respiratory Diseases, Nancy Messonnier.

"The CDC believes that the immediate risk to the American public is low at this time, but the situation is evolving rapidly," he added.

So far at least 26 people have died from this disease in China, and there are 900 others infected worldwide (most in the Asian country).

The other case confirmed in the United States corresponds to a man in the state of Washington who was placed under quarantine after also returning from Wuhan.

This city is isolated under quarantine, along with another ten, in which public transport is paralyzed despite being the eve of the traditional Chinese festival of the Lunar New Year. This measure has affected 33 million people, and has been taken after confirming that the virus is transmitted between humans.

China is now building a new hospital in this city, with 11 million inhabitants, to treat those affected. It is a prefabricated structure on a 270,000 square foot lot, which is scheduled for completion on February 3. The experience of 2003 is repeated, when a sanitary installation was built in just six days in Beijing to face a similar outbreak .

The disease manifests in principle with symptoms such as fever, cough or respiratory distress, but it can get worse and cause death.

Likewise, several cases have been reported in countries around China, such as Japan, Thailand, South Korea and Singapore.

The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control states that it is still unclear how easily the new type of coronavirus initially detected in China is being propagated, and that research to learn more about it is under development. They say it is a serious public health problem, but until the moment of low risk for the American general public, although there is a possibility that new cases will be detected in the next few days.

At the moment, the US authorities are doing health checks on all the people who fly from Wuhan to the airports of Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and San Francisco. They have also recommended that all unnecessary travel to that destination in China be avoided.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has ruled this Thursday to declare the international emergency for the new coronavirus by being "too soon."
