Javier Valdez's wife: Prosecutor's Office should not rule out anything 3:40

(CNN Spanish) - The Office of the Attorney General of Mexico obtained an arrest warrant against the possible intellectual author of the murder of journalist Javier Valdez.

According to a statement published on Thursday, it is about Damaso López Serrano, known as the “Mini Lic”, who in January 2018 pleaded guilty in a US court to conspire to distribute regulated substances for the purpose of importing them illegally. He also acknowledged having been one of the leaders of the Sinaloa cartel. In July 2017 he had surrendered to the authorities of that country and since then he is in prison.

Valdez was killed by multiple shots in May 2017 in Culiacán, Sinaloa while leaving the offices of the weekly he had founded, Río Doce. He was a renowned journalist who worked on extensive reports on drug trafficking and its consequences.

In the trial against the now condemned Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, he declared as a cooperating witness the father of the “Mini Lic”, Dámaso López Núñez (aka El Licenciado), who denied that he and his son were involved in the crime of journalist. CNN is trying to find out who is the legal representative of Dámaso López.

So far three men have been arrested “for their probable responsibility as material perpetrators,” according to the Prosecutor’s statement, who also reported having initiated “immediately all necessary steps” to achieve the extradition of López Serrano.
