About thirty former senior security officials signed an open letter sent to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli ministers and Knesset members. In a letter titled "Promise the Future of the Generations and Israel's Defense Borders - Immediately Apply Israeli Sovereignty to the Jordan Valley," the senior officials called for Israeli law to be applied in the Baka and the Dead Sea region, as the Knesset authorized to do in 1948.
"We have a rare historical opportunity," the letter states, "to determine Israel's national and security frontier, and Israel's prosperity for years to come. Don't miss the time, put politics aside, and be a historic partner, as Israeli statesmen used to at times of trial and major intersections. ".
The letter is signed, among others, Uzi Dayan, Deputy Chief of Staff and former Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yom Tov Samia, who was previously a member and even ran for Labor Party leader, and Ronnie Nome, who resigned from the IDF less than two years ago.
