The governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, and Texas Latino congresswoman Veronica Escobar will give the Democratic response to President Trump's state of the Union speech on February 4.
Whitmer will give the answer in English while Escobar will do it in Spanish.
The announcement was made this Friday by the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the minority leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer.
On his Twitter account, Escobar stressed that the election represented a great honor and a celebration of diversity.

The 50-year-old congresswoman was elected to federal congress by Texas congressional district 16 for the first time last year, after serving as commissioner and judge in El Paso.
In announcing Whitmer's choice for the answer in English, Pelosi and Schumer praised his public service.
“He has led the task of expanding medical care to hundreds of thousands of people, expanding protections for working class families and ensuring safe drinking water in our communities,” they said, “is a leader with a vision for the future focused on resolution. of daily problems for the people of Michigan and is uniquely qualified to convey the message of progress of the Democrats to all Americans. Whitmer was elected governor in 2018, after 18 years of career in the state congress.
