Authorities say he was arrested while transporting more than 100 tonnes of drugs in international waters. "The Crocodile", 36, identified only with the initials of his name, AZ, was executed along with his partner, M.H. They were caught after many years of intelligence surveillance.
"The Crocodile has operated under a series of costumes and pseudonyms," the Hormozgan District Prosecutor told the ISNA News Agency. , And others were heavily penalized. The chain used to launder its capital and use the funds to purchase real estate assets, some of which were confiscated by the authorities.
Iran kills hundreds of prisoners every year. Prior to Amnesty's latest figures, in 2018 there was a 50% drop in executions - 253 compared to 507 in 2017 - partly due to changes made to the harsh punishment imposed on drug offenses. However, international-scale drug trafficking still carries the death penalty.
