(CNN Spanish) - The interim president of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez announced on Friday night in La Paz the launch of her candidacy for the presidential elections called for May 3, 2020.

“Today I present myself as a representative of this great national alliance that brings together the most representative political forces. I take this responsibility with the same spirit, strength and courage with which I decided to face the presidency after the electoral fraud of last October. And always with the north set to unite this great Bolivian family that, although diverse, unites us a great love for this beloved homeland that saw us be born, ”Áñez announced as his followers exclaimed in the compound:“ Jeanine President! Jeanine President! ”

Áñez argued that he made this decision considering that he still does not believe that there is a unity formula that guarantees the continuity of the work that his country needs to achieve stability and extended an invitation to join his cause.

“The dispersion of the vote and the presentation of candidacies that fail to bring Bolivians together has led me to make this decision. We respect the decision of those who have not yet joined, I extend a hand to them, I assure you that the door remains open to join this broad and diverse front that seeks to work for everyone, ”said the president. According to the current electoral calendar, this Friday, January 24, the deadline for presenting political alliances for the general elections is met.

The interim president of Bolivia made the announcement at the presentation ceremony of the “Together” political alliance between her party, Social Democratic Movement, and political forces that supported Bolivia's former president Carlos Mesa in the previous elections. “We have managed to build a great alliance that has asked me to consider running for president for these May elections to continue the work we have been doing to stabilize and bring certainty and of course tranquility to our country,” said Añez.

February 3 is the deadline to officially present the binomials of candidates before the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.
