Socialist candidate ousted former Vice President Biden from the lead in the first state to hold pre-election elections • Sanders campaign hit after heart attack

Just over a week into the race for the Democratic presidential party nominee and Sen. Bernie Sanders provides a surprise and holds first place in polls in the state election in Iowa, the first state to vote in the race.

In a poll published by the New York Times, Sanders appears in first place with 25 percent support, flushing out former Vice President Joe Biden, who comes in third after Pete Bottigig. Sen. Elizabeth Warren dropped significantly and is in fourth place. On average, the polls published on the RealClearPolitics website, Biden still leads Sanders by half a percent.

Biden and Senator Warren have led in most recent polls in the country, which is considered particularly volatile with regard to the democratic elections. However, over 40 percent of survey respondents said they were still considering changing their choices.

The senior senator (78) managed to remain in the top spot in the national support polls, though he failed to restore the enthusiasm his 216 election campaign faced when faced with Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In October, Sanders had a heart attack and had to cancel several important campaign events. Sanders' vulnerability along with his advancing age has been able to do significant damage to his campaign, but Sanders now appears to be recovering in the polls, demonstrating frenzy and renewed energy in his campaign.

Last week, it was announced that former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton strongly attacked Sanders in an interview for a new documentary. "He's been in Congress for years, and only one senator has supported him," the former first lady said in excerpts from the film in The Hollywood Reporter. "Nobody likes him. Nobody wants to work with him. He has achieved nothing. He is a professional politician. Everything else is nonsense, and I feel really bad that people have been sucked into it."
