Donald Trump yesterday became the first US president to participate in the annual "March of Life" in Washington. He fought fiercely with his Democratic rivals ahead of the November election, trying to garner the votes of abortion opponents.

"Unborn children have never been a stronger defender in the White House," the Republican president declared to thousands of supporters, citing conservative judges appointed during his tenure, including two top justices.

State-level protesters, including high school and college students, rallied in cold, cloudy Washington every year to honor the annual Supreme Court ruling of 1973, Ro v. Wade, which recognized the constitutional right of women to have abortions and made the process legal across the state. The rally resembled a political event, with some participants shouting "four more years".

"Unfortunately, the extreme left is actively working to erase the rights given to us by God, to shut down religious charities, to ban believers from gathering in public, and to silence Americans who believe in the sanctity of life," said the president, against whom a Senate impeachment trial is being led by Democrats.

"Democrats have embraced the most radical and radical positions that have been seen in this country for decades, and possibly hundreds of years. Almost every Democrat in Congress today supports tax abortion through taxpayer money, until the moment of birth itself," he told the whistles and curses from the audience. Among the most loyal supporters of the president are the evangelicals, who firmly oppose abortion.

Trump, who in the past supported the right to discriminate, now presents himself as a staunch opponent of his religious beliefs. "We know that every human soul is divine and all human life, whether born or not, was created in the holy image of God omnipotent," said the president, who in his previous 2016 election campaign promised to appoint judges to reverse Ro's historic ruling against Wade.

The right to discriminate remains one of the most controversial issues in the United States. According to a Reuters survey last year, about 58 percent of the country's adult population supports the right to discriminate in all or in most cases. Past presidents chose not to attend the parade, but Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush Republicans carried things from afar.

On March 4, the Supreme Court will hear the arguments in a pivotal case concerning the legality of Louisiana abortion clinic regulations, which may further reduce access to the procedure. The case will examine the court's willingness, which enjoyed a conservative of five justices versus four, to defend anti-abortion laws passed in some conservative states recently.

Some of the participants in the rally held signs that read "Baby Holocaust," "The President's Best for Life Ever," "Stop Killing Babies," and "I'm a Pro-Life Generation." Most were from ranks of religious organizations and conservative civic organizations.
