An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale struck the state of Malatya in southern Turkey today, in addition to 678 aftershocks, which followed the earthquake that struck the city of Alazig in eastern Turkey the day before yesterday.
The Anatolian News Agency, a spokesman for the Turkish system, quoted the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority as saying on its website that the tremor center was in the area of Butorja, at a depth of 11.5 kilometers.
For his part, the Minister of the Interior of the regime, Suleiman Sowailo, indicated during a press conference that 678 aftershocks followed the earthquake and that 20 aftershocks exceeded 4 degrees.
The earthquake killed 35 people and injured more than 1,600 others, according to the latest statistics, while hopes for finding survivors fell after 36 hours of the earthquake, with the temperature dropping at night to 10 degrees below zero.
