Beijing-Sana

China announced today that it continues to maintain close contact with the World Health Organization and relevant countries on ways to tackle the Corona virus.

"China is sending information to the World Health Organization and relevant countries continuously since the spread of pneumonia in Wuhan," Xinhua news agency quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying as saying in a statement.

"The United States has made a proposal to evacuate its consulate in Wuhan," Hua said, noting that "China intends to make arrangements accordingly and provide assistance and facilities to the United States in accordance with international practices and relevant Chinese measures in the prevention of epidemics."

The death toll from the new Corona virus rose to 56, while 1975 people were infected with the virus that first appeared in Wuhan, Hubei Province, central China late last year, and moved to other Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai in addition to the United States, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Australia, France, Canada, and others.

In turn, the Organizing Committee of the Chinese National Winter Games announced today the postponement of the fourteenth session of these games due to the new Corona virus, which was scheduled between February 16 and 26.

The women's ice hockey and biathlon competitions that were scheduled to start next Saturday in Hailar and Yakishi in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China were also postponed.

In the same regard, Director of the National Health Committee of China Ma Xiaowei said during a press conference that his country "is going through a critical time in preventing the spread of the new Corona virus and controlling it," noting that the holiday of the new lunar year, which lasts for a week from the 24 of this month to the 30 of it is the best time to apply isolation and disinfection procedures widely.

"The spread of pneumonia is still at an early stage, and the municipalities will be able to take strict measures to curb the spread of the virus at a lower cost and with greater speed," said Ma Xiao, noting the importance of the epidemic prevention and control measures applied in Wuhan.

The Chinese authorities announced earlier today that they had succeeded in arriving at an anti-Coronavirus medicine in the country.
