It was to take place at 2 p.m. Place de la République, and cover part of the Marais.

The Chinese New Year festivities are partly canceled in Paris. The rally and the parade that were to be held this Sunday afternoon in the capital from Place de la République will ultimately not take place.

"The Chinese community in Paris wanted to cancel the parade planned for this afternoon in Place de la République," said Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo, asked about Europe 1. The elected official said "having met the community yesterday Chinese woman from Paris who is in emotion and worry ”.

“We must respect the decision of the Chinese associations. They didn't really have the heart at the party, ”adds Anne Hidalgo.

The coronavirus also spoiled the party in Bordeaux where the Chinese New Year parade, scheduled for this Sunday, was also canceled by the organizers. One of the three patients in France is currently hospitalized at the Pellegrin hospital, in the Gironde capital.

These decisions come in the context of the spread of the epidemic around the world. Most likely from the Chinese city of Wuhan, it killed around sixty people in China, most of it in Wuhan, and infected around 2,000 people. Some isolated cases have also been recorded outside Chinese borders, in ten countries.

This type of virus can, depending on its form, either cause a cold or a serious lung infection. The new virus provisionally called 2019-nCoV is currently rather contagious, but slightly fatal, in the order of 1% of people infected. The total number of infected people is currently underestimated.
