42 health centers and 4 hospitals in Homs provide free early cervical cancer detection service, while educational sessions, lectures and seminars are intensified during January, the month of global awareness of the disease.
The reproductive health official in the Homs Health Directorate, Dr. Muhammad Al-Aboud explained to Sana Health that 150 health centers provide free reproductive health services, including 42 centers distributed in the countryside and the city, which provides a cervical smear survey service that is read in the Al-Basil Hospital laboratory in Karam al-Lawz and the Directorate of Health directorate.
And Al-Aboud explained that the cervical endoscopy service is present in Al-Basel Hospitals in Karm Al-Lawz, Ibn Al-Walid, Tal Kalakh and Al-Makhram, in addition to the Armenian Health Center, noting that all health centers joined this month’s awareness campaign to detect early cervical cancer through educational activities while providing the necessary initial consultations.
Al-Abboud explained that scanning the cervical smear is a safe, effective and rapid procedure that helps in detecting inflammatory changes and pre-cancerous lesions, noting that women who reveal abnormal smears are referred to have a magnified cervical endoscopy to assess the extent and severity of the lesion and determine the appropriate treatment.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health provides free cervical cancer early detection service through 700 centers that perform smear-taking, while 38 centers are specialized in reading them, and 28 centers include a cervical endoscopy distributed throughout the governorates.
