Five rockets were launched on Sunday at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, three of which directly hit the building - a security source said.

Last week, three Katyusha rockets were fired at the "Green Zone" in Baghdad, where government officials and foreign embassies are housed. Three rockets were launched from Zafrani district near Baghdad, according to Iraqi police sources. They said two rockets landed near the United States Embassy inside the complex.

The shooting comes in the background of a Pentagon announcement over the weekend about the diagnosis of 34 US soldiers in concussion or brain injury following a trauma from the Iranian missile attack on US Army bases in Iraq. Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said eight of the casualties who were evacuated for medical treatment in Germany were transferred to the United States, and nine remained for further supervision. 17 of the injured soldiers returned to their bases.

In recent weeks, Iran has launched at least 20 missiles at bases on which American troops are stationed in Iraq, in response to the assassination of Quds Force commander in the Revolutionary Guards, Qasim Suleimani. Gen. Amir Ali Hajidze, commander of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force responsible for the arsenal of missiles, said Tehran did not attempt to kill soldiers in its attack but did damage to Washington's "war machine." However, he unequivocally argued that "dozens were killed and injured" and that the United States concealed this as it delivered casualties to hospitals in countries in the region, including Israel.
