The death toll from the earthquake that struck eastern Turkey yesterday rose to 31, while the number of injured people reached 1556, according to the latest statistics.
In a statement carried by Turkish media, the Disaster and Emergency Management said that the death toll from the earthquake that struck the Azig province with a force of 6.8 on the Richter scale rose to 31 today, while rescue teams managed to remove 45 people from the rubble.
A previous toll indicated that 29 people had been killed and 1,500 wounded, while searches for survivors under the rubble continued.
The epicenter was located in the town of Sivrijah in Alazig and was felt by residents of neighboring countries, followed by dozens of aftershocks.
