(CNN Spanish) - The government of Minas Gerais, state of Brazil, declared this Sunday an emergency situation in 47 municipalities due to heavy rains that began mainly last Wednesday and that have left 38 dead and thousands of victims affected, according to the media State Agency Brazil.
Heavy rains, which lowered their intensity this Sunday and allowed rescue efforts to be carried out, have caused floods and landslides in the affected municipalities.

According to a state Civil Defense bulletin issued this Sunday, there are 12 people injured, 17 missing and more than 9,500 have had to leave their homes. In addition, another 1,823 lost their homes.
Of the dead, 8 are from Belo Horizonte, 6 from Betim and 5 from Ibirité. The rest, from another 10 municipalities.
