The outbreak of "Wuhan pneumonia" caused by the new coronavirus continues to pose certain risks to frontline ambulancemen who transport suspected cases to hospital. However, some front-line ambulancemen complained to Hong Kong 01. Among the batch of 3M medical N95 masks provided by the Fire Services Department this month, some of them have expired in September last year, which is about 4 months past their expiration date; while the current N95 masks are in stock, No different sizes were provided for use by different personnel. The Fire Services Department stated that it has supplied the N95 masks purchased last year to the front line and will destroy them if it is found to have expired.

Hong Kong 01 recently received a complaint from frontline ambulancemen, criticizing the Fire Services Department for not providing a sufficient number of personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves and masks to the frontline officers. Among them, its subordinate bureau distributed a batch of 3M brand N95 medical masks this month. In China, the production date on the carton is shown as September 2014, and the expiration date is September 2019, which has expired about 4 months.

Does not provide different sizes N95

The complainant also pointed out that N95 medical masks are divided into 1860s size and 1860 size, and a test is required before choosing a large or small size to meet the face shape, avoiding being too large or too small. However, the complainant found that the existing inventory could not provide 1860s and 1860 for use by frontline personnel at the same time, and questioned that the Fire Services Department did not provide sufficient resources for frontline personnel.

Logistics Department: The earliest expiry date of N95 inventory is March 2023

The Fire Services Department responded to the inquiry and stated that the Fire Services Department supplements medical supplies as needed from time to time. As far as N95 masks are concerned, the batch purchased by the Fire Services Department in mid-2019 has been delivered to the relevant units with a validity of 4 years. At present, the N95 masks of the Fire Services Department are in sufficient stock. If any outdated items are found, the FSD will destroy them immediately.

The Government Logistics Department stated that according to the records of the Logistics Department, the department has not provided 3M brand medical masks for use by various government departments in the past 12 months, and the earliest expiry date of the N95 mask inventory is March 2023. As for the batches of masks assigned by individual departments for use by frontline personnel, the Logistics Department has no relevant information.
