The number of people killed in the earthquake that struck the Azig state in eastern Turkey last Friday rose to 41, according to the Turkish Emergency Administration.
"The number of victims of the Yazig earthquake rose to 41 today, while the number of injuries exceeded 1607," the administration said in a statement carried by Turkish media, noting that search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
A previous toll indicated that 35 people were killed in the earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale.
The Turkish Emergency Administration indicated that 948 aftershocks were followed by the earthquake, including 21 tremors that exceeded 4 on the Richter scale.
