As part of the project to rehabilitate irrigation groups, the Deir Ezzor Agriculture Directorate launched the irrigation project in the town of Merat, which irrigates about 2,200 dunums of agricultural land.

The Director of Agriculture in Deir Al-Zour, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Zuh, stated in a statement to the SANA reporter that the irrigation project that was implemented in cooperation and coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations “FAO” is one of the vital and important projects and comes within the framework of the work to re-cultivate all areas of cultivation and the restoration and rehabilitation of working agricultural engines On electricity or diesel in order to irrigate the areas that were damaged during previous years by terrorism and will contribute to returning them to the agricultural process.

And the animal indicated that the project irrigates 2,200 dunums of agricultural land in the northern town of Marat in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor. It began to irrigate 800 dunums of land planted with winter crops and restored life to large areas of land that had been out of service for years as a result of salting it because of its watering from well water, noting that The area of ​​land planted with wheat in the region increased by 200 percent, increasing from 200 dunums to 450 dunums.

The project manager Salem Al-Freih pointed out that the works that were carried out included installing a new engine with a capacity of 110 horses and a new water pump, and laying polyethylene tanks 14 inches in diameter and a length of about 1,200 meters.

A number of farmers noted the efforts made to recycle the wheel of production in the agricultural sector in Deir Ezzor, which contributes to supporting the national economy and provides a source of income for the people returning to their villages and fields.
