The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to confront the fierce attack of the Israeli occupation on the schools of occupied Jerusalem, especially the UNRWA schools.
The Foreign Ministry stated in a statement today reported by the Wafa Agency that the occupation authorities are launching a fierce attack on Jerusalem schools and Palestinian education curricula, and are working to impose their curricula and forcing Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, especially those who visit UNRWA schools, to go to the occupation schools.
The Foreign Ministry pointed to the continued occupation attacks on the Palestinian educational process through direct intervention in the educational curricula, especially the occupied Jerusalem schools, the repeated incursions into schools, killing, wounding, and arresting students and teachers, as well as impeding Palestinian access to their schools in flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that education is a right guaranteed by all international conventions. International humanitarian law prevents the occupation authorities from obstructing the right to access education and imposing any change in the content, nature or operations of educational institutions of the state under occupation.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the ambassadors of Palestine in the countries of the world are working to mobilize international support to provide a safe and appropriate environment for the educational process and stand in the face of the systematic American-Israeli campaign against UNRWA, especially in occupied Jerusalem, and to ensure its survival and provide the necessary conditions to continue providing its humanitarian and educational services.
The Israeli occupation authorities announced at the beginning of last year a plan to close UNRWA schools and institutions in occupied Jerusalem as of 2020, in the framework of the American-Israeli attempts to end UNRWA's work as an entrance to prevent the recognition of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and pass the so-called "deal of the century" aimed at liquidating the Palestinian issue .
