Hama and As-Suwayda-Sana
Sales of the General Organization for Seed Propagation Branch in Hama have exceeded 22,200 tons of sifted and sterilized wheat and 995 tons of barley for farmers since the beginning of the winter planting season for grain crops for the current season.
The director of the Foundation’s branch, Eng. Abdul Ghani Al-Aswad, stated with a statement to SANA correspondent that the branch sold more than 9,000 tons of wheat seed to the branches of the Agricultural Bank, in addition to shipping 5650 tons of wheat seed to the provinces and about 2900 tons for the benefit of international organizations as well as selling 3700 tons of wheat seed to farmers Proprietary contracts.
With regard to barley between lions, a contract was implemented for the International Red Cross in Daraa with a quantity of 275 tons, and for the organization in Hama with a quantity of 400 tons, supplying 110 tons to the branches of the Agricultural Bank and selling 180 tons to farmers.
He explained that the foundation’s branch sells wheat seed at a price of 200 pounds per kilo while barley seed is sold at 145 pounds per kilo and farmers are sold under an agricultural license in which the area to be planted is determined according to the need of one dunum.
The area of the cultivated fields cultivated with wheat crop in Hama reached 50 thousand dunums distributed in various areas of the governorate, where the Foundation branch distributed 1300 tons of seeds to the contracted farmers to grow the fields. The field committees conduct field tours on the fields to find out the reality and the general state of the crops within the fields.
In Sweida, the General Seed Propagation Branch concluded today the sale of foreign potato seed imported from Elite to farmers who have subscribed to its purchase.
In a statement to SANA correspondent today, the branch manager, Eng. Wael Al-Tawil, indicated that the quantities of seeds sold exceeded 200 tons, and that they serve the cultivation of more than 1,000 dunums of crops in the governorate for the spring and summer crops for the upcoming season.
Al-Tawil pointed out that the branch is currently preparing to start the network planting season within the national potato seed multiplication project that was launched in the governorate two years ago with the aim of reaching the stage of self-sufficiency from locally produced seeds.
The cultivation of potatoes is concentrated in the endosperm governorate in the villages and towns of Mazraa, Uri, Al-Thahla, Rasas, Al-Dour, Al-Matuna and some villages of Salkhad.
