US officials acknowledged the crash of a small American military plane in central Afghanistan today.
Reuters quoted officials who declined to be identified as saying that "a small American military plane crashed in a Taliban-controlled area in central Afghanistan."
The officials indicated that there were no indications that the plane was intentionally shot down, while one of them indicated that "the plane was carrying ten people on board."
Arif Nuri, a spokesman for the governor of Ghazni province in central Afghanistan, announced earlier today that "a Boeing plane belonging to the Afghan state-owned Ariana Air Company crashed in the Deh Yak area in Ghazni without knowing the cause of the plane crash or the number of casualties so far" while the Taliban claimed responsibility On the shooting down of the plane, she said in a statement, according to Reuters, "It is a US military plane and that all those on board, including senior officers, were killed."
In turn, an Afghan military official denied the killing of any American officer and said that "investigations are still underway to find out the cause of the accident."
