The outbreak of new coronavirus in Wuhan continues to spread. In addition to the tide of buying masks, alcohol hand rub is even more difficult to find. The Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy of the University of Hong Kong uploaded a short video on a social website yesterday (27th) to teach the public to make alcohol-based hand rubs based on the World Health Organization formula, simple utensils and materials that can be bought in ordinary pharmacies. .
Hu Weikang, assistant professor of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy of the University of Hong Kong, introduces two methods of homemade alcohol hand rub in the short film. It can be used with syringes or takeaway capsules made by pharmacies. After the product is completed, wait 72 hours before use to ensure production During or during the eradication of microorganisms in the bottle. Formula one requires 80 ml of 96% ethanol, 1.45 ml of glycerin, 4 ml of topical 3% hydrogen peroxide and distilled water, a total of 100 ml of alcohol hand rub, stir until there is no layer of glycerin, and finally pour into a clean plastic bottle. Glycerin is added to keep the disinfecting ingredients on the hands longer to maintain the disinfecting effect.

The second formula also requires glycerin, hydrogen peroxide and distilled water. 75 ml of 99% isopropanol is used instead of ethanol. If 99% isopropanol is not found, normal 75% alcohol can be used, and glycerin and hydrogen peroxide can be added directly. After pouring isopropanol into a clean vessel, add 1.45 ml of glycerin, 4 ml of hydrogen peroxide, and finally add water to 100 ml.
