Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this morning (Tuesday) that he is withdrawing the Knesset's request for immunity a few hours before the plenary hearings open about the establishment of the Immunity Removal Committee.
"Citizens of Israel, at this fateful time for the people of Israel, while I am in the U.S. on a historic mission to shape Israel's permanent borders and ensure our security for future generations, is expected to open another Knesset show in the Immunity Circuit," wrote Netanyahu, who is in Washington on the occasion of the centennial program.
"This is the continuing personal obsession with 'just not Bibi' people. Instead of understanding the size of the hour and transcending political considerations, they continue to engage in cheap politics that harms a crucial moment in the history of the country.
"Because I was not given due process, because all the rules of Knesset work were trampled on a rough foot, and because the results of the procedure were pre-dictated without a proper discussion, I decided not to let this dirty game continue.
"A few minutes ago, I informed the Speaker of the Knesset that I was withdrawing the request for immunity. Below we will smash all the disproportionate allegations of idle cases filed in my case. But now, I will not let my political opponents use this matter to interfere with the historical move I am leading. As I have done all my life, I will continue to invest all for the future of our country and for you, the citizens of Israel. "
