The Spiritual Summit of the Patriarchs of the Eastern Christian Churches and their Presidents called on the international community to help in seeking to build a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the Charter of Human Rights, Justice, Freedom and Love in the region, especially in Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
The summit, held in Beirut at the invitation of the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bishara Boutros Al-Rahi, expressed in its closing statement the sympathy for the suffering that the Syrian people are going through in general as a result of the conditions they have been living in for years, and pointed to the suffering of the kidnapped, especially the bishops Paul Yazji and John Ibrahim, demanding to reveal their fate and work To return them to their diocese as soon as possible.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, the summit expressed satisfaction with the formation of a new Lebanese government, and said, “We expect this government to gain the confidence of the Lebanese people, and we urge the people of politics to keep up with a positive spirit of government action so that it can devote itself to implementing reforms in structures and sectors for the desired economic advancement and implementation. The principles of social justice are far from the logic of factional and quota interests that prevailed in the country for decades.
