Chief Executive Lin Zheng Yue'e yesterday (28th) announced a series of epidemic prevention measures, including the temporary closure of the West Rail Kau Kau Station and the Hung Hom Express Train Port from 30th of this month, and the suspension of free visa wholesale. The Federation of Trade Unions met with the media this morning (29th) after meeting with Lin Zheng on the prevention and control of Wuhan pneumonia. Chairman Wu Qiubei welcomed the measures.

With regard to the recent strike of medical care, Legislative Council Member Mai Meijuan pointed out that the strike for any reason has affected the service to patients is not satisfactory, and proposed that the government grant special allowances for medical care that is still on duty. The medical and nursing profession is struggling to strike because of dissatisfaction with the government's epidemic prevention work. The Queen's Hospital and the Eastern District Hospital were the first nurses to take leave collectively. Mai Meijuan said that she understands that the pressure on the frontline of medical care is increasing, but the strikes for any reason affect the service to patients is not ideal. The majority of patients in public hospitals are Hong Kong citizens, and the strike affects local medical services.

Maimeijuan praised a group of very enthusiastic doctors who showed that they would keep their posts, pay tribute to them and support their work. She also proposed that the government grant additional special allowances to health care and support grade staff who are still on duty.

Strengthen immigration control according to the needs of the epidemic

When asked if she would support a comprehensive customs clearance, Mai Meijuan did not respond positively, but only said that the government should make preparations in all aspects according to the needs of the epidemic, including strengthening immigration control measures and prohibiting non-Hong Kong people from entering the diagnosis area. Regarding how to define the diagnosis area, and whether the current partial clearance is sufficient, Mai Meijuan has not made it clear, but only emphasized that it is necessary to consider the opinions of experts to make adjustments in measures.

Citing the government: if the supply is sufficient, consider all-people masks

Recently, there has been a surge in mask purchases in the society. The FTU has expressed concern to Lin Zheng and proposed that if there is sufficient supply, masks and other epidemic prevention supplies should be distributed free of charge to the entire population of Hong Kong. It is suggested that the Consumer Council publish a list of unscrupulous merchants starting from the ground. Mak Mei-juan quoted Lin Zheng as saying that if the supply was sufficient, the relevant recommendations would be considered and she has now searched the world for shopping capital.
