A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck yesterday (Tuesday) in the southern region of Cuba and northwestern Jamaica. Following the incident, a tsunami center in the United States warned of a wave's feasibility in both states and the Cayman Islands. But no reports of casualties or significant damage were received.

In Miami, Florida, some downtown buildings had groups of people standing outside saying they were evacuated. The Mammy-Dade Rescue Department said it had responded to numerous reports of high-rise buildings swinging in the wake of the quake. "Currently there are no injuries or harms. Residents and visitors are advised to remain calm," the department's Twitter said.

Angie Watler, a spokeswoman for Cayman police, the island close to the quake, said public officials reported damage to buildings and a swimming pool at the Caribbean Sands Resort in the South Island. Videos on social networks, probably from Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, showed water spilling from the pools during the quake.

Watler said there have been no reports of injuries so far but authorities are still conducting tests in the area. A Cayman Islands official said there were reports of sinkholes created following the quake. The Cuban government said the quake was felt in some districts.
