Photo: Reuters, edited by Tal ReznikThe Syrian army took control of the city of A-No'aman Cave, Idlib's second largest city, on Tuesday (Tuesday), the official media of the Syrian regime and the human rights organization reported. The province, bordering Turkey, remains the last major stronghold of rebels after nearly nine years of civil war.
The city, located 33 kilometers south of Idlib city, has been under opposition since 2012. Fighting in Idlib resumed despite a January 12 ceasefire formulated by Russia, which supports the regime of Bashar Assad, and Turkey, which supports the opposition.
According to the United Nations, the latest fighting has led some 358,000 people to flee their homes to the border with Turkey, where about three and a half million Syrian refugees are staying. Turkish Defense Ministry said Turkish forces will respond "with maximum force, without hesitation" against any damage to their posts in the province Idlib: Anke backs up some of the rebels fighting the regime.
