(CNN Spanish) - Catalonia will go to elections, although only after approving new budgets. This was announced on Wednesday Quim Torra, president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, as a result of the "deterioration of mutual trust" between the two partners of the Autonomous Government: Junts per Catalunya and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya.

According to the Palau de la Generalitat, the trust and consensus around the independence that both forces shared broke on Monday when the president of the Parliament of Catalonia and member of the Republican Esquerra, Roger Torrent, abided by the Supreme Court decision to withdraw the minutes of deputy to Torra.

A decision that derives from the judgment of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia of the last nineteenth of December, the day in which he sentenced Quim Torra to eighteen months of disqualification from public office and a fine of thirty thousand euros for the commission of a crime of disobedience. According to the Court, the disobedience of the leader of the Catalan executive was proved when he disregarded the order of the Central Electoral Board given in March 2019, that is, in the middle of the electoral period of the elections of April 28, to withdraw the symbols related to the movement independentistas that were exhibited in public buildings under the responsibility of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

Without his deputy minutes, Quim Torra is now deprived of his ability to vote in the chamber, although he intends to continue as president of the Generalitat until the Supreme Court finally resolves on his disqualification to hold public office.
But to know the exact date of these elections, we can still wait for the budgets for this 2020 to be approved.

This Wednesday they will be presented in the Catalan chamber and, according to a source from the Parlament de Catalunya to CNN, the natural route for approval may take two months, which could occur between the end of March and the beginning of next April. If this electoral advance had not been announced, the next elections would have been called at the end of this twelfth autonomous legislature, at the end of 2021.
