(CNN Spanish) - The Chilean Prosecutor's Office investigates the death of a fan of the Colo Colo football club, who died after being hit by a police truck outside the Monumental stadium on Tuesday night. The driver of the truck is stopped and is expected to file charges against him on Wednesday.
Clashes between the Carabineros and several Colo Colo fans occurred after the football match between Caciques and Palestine for the national tournament. Major Claudio Donoso, from the Special Forces prefecture, said the fans attacked the truck that transported the Carabineros horses and that was when the driver ran over the fan. The man was taken by private individuals to a hospital where he lost his life due to gravity
of injuries.
Major Donoso explained at a press conference that “when we learned that the event had happened, we tried to approach the place where the people were, and we were still attacked by other protesters, when we arrived at the site of the event we managed to realize that the person already had been removed from the place ... The person (driver) is shocked by what had happened. It is an unfortunate fact, nobody - not us the driver, wanted it to happen. ”
The Colo Colo club, through a statement, repudiated “the violent, irrational and disproportionate act of Carabineros de Chile at the end of the game” and added that “as a Club, we make ourselves totally available to the fan's family to provide all the necessary advice and company and find those responsible. ”
