Europe between the Straits

The moderate European response and even the welcoming of the American government's "Century Plan" is clear evidence of a paradigm shift in the world's attitude to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Moreover, since the Europeans were the 70s and onward in the West to represent and defend the claims of the Palestinians, often more zealously than many Arab states have demonstrated - we may be witnessing the beginning of a political upheaval, which means a separation from European conceptions of high-risk Eastern concepts. Created from a combination of economic interests, "romantic" perceptions of Arab and Islamic cultures, and traditional and new anti-Semitism.

Trump has broken the "rules of the century" game rules that have so far been accepted in the international arena, which the Europeans have greatly contributed to their adoption: No more sacred borders '67, Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the Jordan Valley is Israel's eastern border, the settlements are legitimate and annexed to Israel. In exchange for exchange of land, there is no mention of the "right of return." In doing so, the chapter rejects five iron principles of the Palestinians, which were either declaratory or principled in Europeans and allowed the Palestinians to perpetuate the conflict for decades - with the generous funding of the Europeans. Almost miraculously, Brussels, Berlin and Paris did not respond to the rejection of the plan for its revolutionary principles, and welcomed the fact that it was giving a renewed boost to the negotiation process, which seemed to be in a clinical death situation.

The Europeans say they will study and examine the details of the US plan and wait to see the Middle East responses themselves, but given that the Palestinians have already rejected the deal, it seems that not only Arab states are already fed up with the constant Palestinian refusal. Europeans today have enough problems of their own, some related to the arrival of the East in Europe in the form of refugees, illegal immigrants and Islamist terror.

For the Europeans, the American plan includes the two-state magic formula, which has become a permanent mantra since the Oslo Accords. Europeans seem to care less about the exact nature of the proposed Palestinian state. Perhaps the experience of recent years has already made it clear to them that if it depends on the Palestinians, such a country will not be established, since the Palestinians prefer to continue to be a corrupt relief company, which receives financial support, mainly from Europe, as long as the conflict with Israel continues.

However, sometime the international community will have to demand that the Palestinians make important decisions or stop their problems. In order to achieve such a situation, the pressure on the Palestinians - economic and political - will have to be activated. The United States is already implementing this policy.

And so the test-time comes to the Europeans: will they continue their traditional policy of unconditional support for Palestinian refusal, or will they finally join those working to find a solution to the conflict. Trump's clear attitude toward Iran has made it clear to Europeans that their ability to advance processes in the Middle East is virtually zero.

It is better to be beside Washington. A first significant signal for the Palestinians to move forward would be accelerated action to eliminate the UNRWA agency and make it a regular Palestinian relief agency for a limited period of time. The Europeans will prove their seriousness about achieving peace in the Middle East.
