(CNN) - For Valentine's Day this year you could enjoy a cocktail tasting menu combined in one of Vancouver's best restaurants, fly to Whistler for a ski vacation or book a cozy cabin on the west coast of the Vancouver Island to monitor the storms.

But thinking of those who are tired of such romantic (Canadian) clichés, the Zed Hotel in British Columbia has an alternative for this romantic date.

The hotel, with offices in Victoria and Kelowna, is offering a noon special for four hours for February 14 called “Nooner,” something he has been doing for the past five years. Couples can register between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm (rates start from 59 Canadian dollars or 44 US dollars) to have some sex, followed by a ping-pong game in a room or maybe A sexy bath in the outdoor hot tub.

Promotion to conceive babies

For Valentine's Day, the hotel chain is increasing its bets with a promotion to conceive babies: if the lovers receive great joy in their lives nine months after their activity during the “Nooner”, they will win a free stay at any of the Zed hotels that they prefer during the next 18 years. (Do you need more incentives? A new Zed headquarters will open its stalls this summer in Tofino, a secluded village on Vancouver Island, famous for its jungle walks and surfing waves).

The executive president of Hotel Zed, Mandy Farmer, came up with the original idea of the "Nooner" when her children were young and she struggled to find quality time with her husband ... without children in the picture. The possibility of a romantic date for February 14 was more attractive than a bouquet of carnations or a box of chocolates, so he took the idea to the meeting and took a chance with them.

The incentive to conceive babies this year seemed like a fun twist: Valentine is notoriously famous for compromises, so why not also for baby conceptions?

“I don't think we can convince someone to have a baby if they aren't thinking about doing it seriously. But if you are considering expanding your family, why wouldn't you try? ”Asks Farmer. "If you succeed, you will gain a way to celebrate your baby's conception for the next 18 years," he added.

Any baby, anyway

Couples who become parents by renting a belly or by adoption also qualify for the promotion. (Credit: Courtesy of the Zed Hotel).

Hotel Zed is a Pride at Work partner, and the promotion is open to all people, regardless of their gender identity, expression or sexual orientation. This means that couples can still win the prize if they decide to rent a belly or go the way of adoption. But, attention dog lovers: puppies do not count.

In certain circles, the word "Nooner" is the jargon for "a quickie," which is why this Valentine's offer seems to some in bad taste.

The hotel has received criticism through letters and comments on social networks calling the promotion shameful and unpleasant. Since the offer to conceive babies was launched on January 14, a Facebook user has accused the contest of discriminating against people who do not want to have children or who already have children. The hotel responded directly to the publication on the social network explaining that it does not mean discriminating and will take it into account for future occasions.

In line with brand

The promotion seeks to be playful and encourage happy and healthy sex lives, says Farmer. It is also consistent with the Zed Hotel brand, which is about being different.

Both Victoria and Kelowna headquarters are remodeled motels decorated with a nod to the 1970s. In Zed de Kelowna, located downtown, facing City Park Beach on the shore of Lake Okanagan, the lobby features Low sofas and modern lighting fixtures, and the bright colors of the disco decade illuminate the walls, upholstered chairs and cushions.

Guests can listen to an ABBA album at the vinyl station, write a letter on one of the two old typewriters or try a pair of free four-wheel skates. There is even a small disco, complete with a fog machine, a mirrored disco ball and a karaoke area.

"It's not huge, but we like to think it's intimate," says management assistant Kaileigh Battah.

This feeling could describe the entire property.

From the cozy corner of the living room in the lobby and the pleasant seating by the window inside the Ping Pong lounge, to the rooms with cute kitchens, fun colors and comic book reading material, it feels more like the retro home of A friend than a hotel. The rooms even have rotary phones and instructions that explain how to use them.

Let the game begin

The funky atmosphere and comfortable bed in The Kitschy King's favorite, Battah's favorite, could make the contest participants find a baby environment.

But would a winning couple want to return to the Zed Hotel year after year on Valentine's Day?

For Kelowna resident Jenn Sutton and her husband, the answer is yes. They will register at the Zed Hotel on February 14 for their fourth “Nooner”. It has become a Valentine's Day tradition since a friend bought them a gift card three years ago.

“There is a very fun atmosphere in the hotel and they do an exceptional job,” explains Sutton. "They left us little candy cigarettes on the nightstand, and last year there was a deck of mischievous cards in case we wanted to be creative with the positions."

However, the couple will not try to have a baby: they already have two teenagers. "We will encourage others," Sutton says with a laugh.
