The death toll in the Corona virus outbreak in China rose to 170 on Thursday, with foreigners being evacuated from the Hubei province, which was hit hardest by the outbreak. Citizens staying in the area began to return to their homes under close surveillance, and global health experts expressed "great concern" that the disease was starting to spread among people outside of China.

In the past day, 38 people died, almost all of China's Hubei Province, after the fatal virus. Thus, the death toll from the virus rose to 170 people. Since the outbreak, about 7,700 people have been diagnosed in Corona with China, and the mortality rate of those infected with the virus is 2.2%.

This news comes as 195 U.S. citizens evacuated from Wahan, the city where the virus first broke out, undergo three days of testing and surveillance at a military base in Southern California to make sure they show no signs of getting infected.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry said a group of 210 Japanese evacuees from Wuhan landed tonight at a Tokyo airport on a second flight initiated by the Japanese government. It was reported that nine of the people on the flight showed signs of coughing and fever. Three people from the group were tested and found to be infected with the virus. In addition to the United States and Japan, France, New Zealand, Australia and other countries have also begun to extract their citizens from China or plan to do so.

The World Health Organization chairman said the few cases of the spread of the virus among people outside China, as occurred in Japan, Germany, Vietnam and Canada, caused "great concern" and were among the reasons why the UN Health Agency convened yesterday and Experts to assess whether the outbreak should be declared a global emergency.

Dimensions of the new virus have already surpassed the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003. Dr. Michael Ryan said at a news conference after returning from meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and his government officials in Beijing that China is taking "extraordinary steps in light of the extraordinary challenge" posed by the outbreak of the virus.

He noted that because of this, about 99% of the infections are currently in China. Dr. Ryan estimated the new virus mortality rate to be about 2% of those infected, but said the figure was still very preliminary. By comparison, the SARS virus killed 10% of people infected. More like SARS.

The Ministry of Health in Israel announced last night that China's entry and exit policy is being considered following the spread of the virus.
