Naama's release is exciting - but we are out of proportion again

She was not kidnapped or captured while performing her duties. It did not contribute to the State of Israel more than others, neither a symbol nor a signal, nor its title nor citrus. Naama Issachar is an ordinary girl who made a nonsense mistake. A disproportionate and disproportionate campaign, used for political purposes, made her a hero.

Usually the media is looking for special people to make them heroes. Someone who did an extraordinary act, heroic act, exciting gesture, successes - anything that would get us out of the routine and allow us to transcend life itself, get out of ourselves. The campaign for Naama Issachar was based on her being totally average: living in the streets, serving in the army, traveling, traveling a standard route of an Israeli young woman, nothing more, no less. Faced with bursting Israeliism, he faces "a cruel enemy": Russian rule led by President Putin, the man whose one look paralyzes you for two years. Everything burned in Israelis' consciousness about Russia suddenly popped up - the Iron Curtain, Gulag, the huge Tekkenko under the basket blocking Moti Arousti. Then Naama is no longer an Israeli prisoner, she is a Zionist prisoner, Ida Noodle.

That was enough to start a move that was out of proportion. The Israeli media and the public acted as if it were a hostage rescue operation, and brutal terrorists were about to kill them at any moment. An opportunity was created to unite with the world against us. In an age that is all divided, Naama Issachar has become a consensus. She served us the way we served her, she gave us a sense of togetherness. We remembered how pleasant it is to mobilize for a common cause, how human and compassionate and hopeful it is. How much Israel knows how to support and embrace difficult times. How wonderful it is, if only for a moment, to be one living human tissue. And how different everything can be in the moment when not involved in the story of politicians and politics.

But then came the third round of elections. And it turned out that for her to release her not enough to hold hands in difficult moments, something had to be given in return. And that she will not board a regular flight, but the Prime Minister will bring her home with him on the plane. And the beautiful, clean story, which the media has so much enjoyed increasing and glorifying, has at once become controversial. The exciting, exaggerated and disproportionate campaign is disappointing, and disappointments produce a particularly sharp backlash.

We got confused. On the one hand, there is no one who does not want to see Naama at home. Parents think about their children, and prefer to live in a country where captive redemption, even at a high cost, is a top value. On the other hand, the campaign for the return of Naama has become a monster: it has swallowed everything around it, an entire state in ecstasy, live broadcasts, a political showcase, the feeling is that someone completely lost the rein, lost the voice of reason.

Naama Issachar is an ordinary girl who did nonsense, that's all. The disparity between this simple fact and what happened next is, more than anything, indicative of loss of consciousness.
