Smoke from fires affects the Australian Open 2:11

(CNN) - Venezuelan-Spanish tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza defeated the Romanian Simona Halep in the semifinals of the Australian Open, in a resounding battle between the Wimbledon champions and the French Open, with a 10-8 tiebreaker.

Muguruza will go to the final against the American Sofia Kenin, who beat Ashleigh Barty, the best ranked, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 in the women's semifinals in the scorching Melbourne.

Kenin also beat the favorite of the masses, Coco Gauff, in the fourth round.

Now he will face Muguruza, who after enduring a largely forgettable 2019 and cutting ties with coach Sam Sumyk, has overthrown three seeds from the top 10 after entering the Australian Open with a disease.

Like Kenin, Muguruza saved set points in the first, two serving in 6-5 and two more in the tiebreaker.

He took advantage of his third set point when the Romanian hit a right blow with a Muguruza stranded in the net.

Halep then broke his racket with disgust and shook his head in his chair.

Muguruza recovered from a breakdown deficit in the second set, mixing his aggressive baseline game with some characteristic shots and defense.

Both Muguruza and Kenin would like to leave Melbourne with the winning trophy.
