The Barracks went live at 11pm on Friday, after three years of tense negotiations between London and Brussels.
Lawmakers voted by a majority of 621 votes against 49 opponents to pass the retirement agreement, under which Britain would continue to be subject to union laws for a period of about a year. After the vote, members of the European Parliament broke into the song of the Scottish people "Past Times".
During the transitional period, Boris Johnson's government will try to formulate a trade agreement with the remaining 27 countries in the bloc.
"Only in the agony of departure are we looking at the depth of love," said European Commission President Ursula von Der Lane, quoting British author George Elliott. "We will always love you and we will never be far away. Long live in Europe."
