The campaign is well and truly launched. Several hundred people demonstrated this Friday evening in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) to welcome the Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, just declared candidate for the municipal elections in this city which he administered since 2010 before being appointed head of government.

In a tense social context at the national level, in the midst of pension reform, this local meeting was inevitably the occasion for certain opponents to remember the good memories of the boss of Matignon. On a red banner, one could for example read "Reds of anger", and on a black "Retirement by points, of the retirement in less. Education says no ”. Among the slogans launched by the demonstrators, reasoned in particular "Edouard, leave, in Le Havre we do not want to see you" or even "We must show Doudou that Le Havre is ours".

“Édouard Philippe ridicules and despises the world of work with his pension reform. We want to show him that we are there, he must withdraw his reform, he must listen to what is happening on the street, ”said Dominique Mutel, former municipal councilor (PCF).

“His return to Le Havre is not very democratic. To announce that, if he is elected, he will not be mayor but that he will be able to return thereafter, it is a political combination ”, commented the former elected official.

incidents

A few brief incidents punctuated the end of the demonstration. The security forces fired tear gas canisters, especially shortly after the demonstration was dispersed, while small groups of demonstrators were scattered near the hall where the Prime Minister was to speak.
