Mitt Romney, the Republican senator and former presidential candidate, announced Friday that he would vote for allowing witnesses to testify in the Senate impeachment trial against President Donald Trump.

Senators are expected to decide during the day whether to allow the giving of testimony, as Democrats are pressing, or reject the possibility, thus essentially ending the trial issue.

Meanwhile, over the past three days, Trump's defense team has been confronted with questions posed by 100 senators, Democrats and Republicans about the Ukraine Gate affair and the issue of whether the president has used his power and status.

At the same time, John Bolton, who until a few months ago served as President Trump's national security adviser, wrote in his (as yet unpublished) book that President Trump did tie military aid at the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars to Ukraine in demanding an inquiry into his political rival from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, but it appears that Bolton himself will not testify against the president if he continues.
