The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of a person in Deir Atiya in Damascus countryside who deals in a currency other than the Syrian pound, as part of the efforts made by police units to follow up on non-lira dealers and pursue people who manipulate their exchange rate.
The Ministry stated on its Facebook page today that the Criminal Security Branch in Damascus countryside managed to arrest a person while he was doing foreign currencies and dealing in non-pounds in his shop intended to sell smoke in Deir Atiyah, noting that he was investigating his shop in the presence of the judicial officer in the Central Bank of Syria in which he found Various foreign currencies and money amounting to one million, one hundred and ninety three thousand three hundred and fifty liras.
The Ministry indicated that, by investigating the arrested person, he confessed to having illegally exchanged and exchanged foreign currency, as the necessary legal action had been taken against him, and he would be brought to the appropriate jurisdiction.
