The spread of a new coronavirus associated with Wuhan pneumonia continues to cause confirmed cases in Hong Kong. The Centre for Health Protection revealed at a press conference today (2nd) that the mother of the male patient of the 13th confirmed case had a positive initial test or the second case of imported local transmission related to Wuhan. In addition, there is one more positive case in Hong Kong, which may be the 16th confirmed case in Hong Kong, but no specific information is available for the time being.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection, said at a press conference today that the mother of the 13th confirmed case had a preliminary test positive, or the second case of local transmission in Hong Kong. There is one more case in Hong Kong. Cases with a positive initial test may become the 16th confirmed case in Hong Kong, but no specific information is available for the time being.

Zhang Zhujun: Not too dangerous to Huangpu Garden

Zhang said that after the 13th confirmed case was admitted to the hospital for isolation treatment on January 31, his family had no symptoms at that time and was sent to an isolation camp for observation. The mother of the patient subsequently developed an illness in an isolation camp and therefore considered that the case was not too dangerous for the residents of Huangpu Garden.

The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health found a confirmed case of imported new coronavirus infection on January 31. The confirmed patient was a 39-year-old male living in Block 1, Phase 11, Whampoa Garden, Hong Kong, with a long-term illness. He had muscle pain since January 29 and fever on the 31st. He went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment and was admitted to the hospital for isolation. The patient is now in stable condition and his respiratory tract samples confirmed a positive response to the new coronavirus. His wife, daughter, son, domestic helper and mother had no symptoms at the time and were sent to the quarantine center for isolation and surveillance. His mother had symptoms recently and the test results were positive.

The CHP has already carried out an epidemiological investigation and contact tracing of the man. According to the information provided by the patient, he took the high-speed rail from Hong Kong to Wuhan on January 21 (G306 train), and returned to Hong Kong by high-speed rail (G79 train) at Changsha South Station on January 23. He did not visit medical institutions, wet markets or seafood markets during the incubation period, and did not come into contact with wildlife.
