The Embassy of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka held a reception on the occasion of the seventy-second anniversary of the National Day in Sri Lanka this evening at the Sham Hotel in Damascus.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka in Damascus, Dubetika b. K. And. Karunaratne, in a speech that has the necessity of strengthening and developing bilateral relations between the two countries in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples and said: “Syria was the friend of Sri Lanka and gave her the utmost assistance in various fields.”

Karunaratne considered that appointing her country as an extraordinary ambassador in Syria is an important event in the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries, citing the recovery witnessed in Syria and the return of security and stability to most of its lands.

In turn, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in various fields between Syria and Sri Lanka, which have strong ties, noting that Sri Lanka’s victory in its war on terrorism several years ago is a victory for Syria over the enemy itself.

Al-Miqdad stressed that Syria defends in its war on terror all humanity and that the Syrian Arab Army continues to liberate all lands from terrorism, pointing out that Syria will not accept any occupation on its lands and that the war that is waged against it, especially unilateral economic coercive measures against the Syrian people, is doomed to failure. No matter how long it takes.

The reception was attended by a number of members of the People's Assembly, Assistant Minister of Education Dr. Darem Tabaa, a number of ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions in Damascus and economic, cultural and social activities.
