Despite a drop in the number of visitors, the mood for the ball of craftsmen in Lengdorf was excellent. There were great cakes to be won at the raffle.

Lengdorf - Despite obvious gaps in the hall, the atmosphere was excellent and the dance floor was well filled: Around 140 guests came to the craft ball in the Gasthof Menzinger in Lengdorf on Saturday - previously there were 300.

District master craftsman Rudolf Waxenberger, the conférencier of the evening, saw the relatively low response from the positive side. "This gives us more space to dance and this year everyone will definitely win something at the raffle," he said when he greeted the guests. Arithmetically, Waxenberger's prediction should work: the guilds of bakers, hairdressers, butchers, carpenters and carpenters had donated exactly 151 prizes, including, as every year, numerous magnificent cakes. "Originally, this was a ball for bakers and butchers," explained Anton Ways from Moosinning, honorary master of Erdinger bakers. The black and white ball has been around since 1996. After a steady increase in the number of visitors, the artisans had to make do with fewer guests in recent years. "Adolescents have always come, however," said Ways.

The young dancers from the Young Generation show dance group from St. Wolfgang opened the ball and heated up the mood. Later the show dancers from the danceperados in Steinkirchen followed. The dance and party band exxtra ensured that the dance floor was almost always full. With hits from the 70s such as "Mendocino" or "A little bit of fun must be", the band from Munich, which has already played all over Europe, in North Africa, China and Japan, obviously met the taste of the audience in Lengdorf.

Gabi Kurz and her husband Sepp visited the Handwerker-Ball for the second time. "We have performed here before - in 2007, at that time we were the Carnival Prince couple in St. Wolfgang," said the owner of a nursery from St. Wolfgang. "At that time the booth was full, but it is better to dance this year." The band had a very extensive repertoire, the enthusiastic dancer said. Before the trip to Lengdorf, she checked the exxtra website.

Josef Neumeir, on the other hand, is almost a regular guest at the Handwerker-Ball. The wine merchant from Hohenlinden supplies the Menzinger inn and has been to the Erdinger craftsmen's carnival balls ten times. "The opportunity to dance is diminishing," said Neumeir. "I also want to support the tradition of the Erdinger artisan balls with my visit." Günter Wirnhier
