British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to toughen the laws against terrorist convicts following yesterday's London attack by a convicted prisoner convicted of terrorist offenses. Amshad Amman, who was jailed in 2018 for Islamist terrorist offenses, was released a few days ago after serving about half of his three-year sentence. He was shot dead by police as he began to stab people on a central street in London.

"We will announce further plans for major changes to the system for dealing with convicted terrorist offenders," Johnson said Sunday. "My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones."

British politicians have repeatedly called for stricter anti-conviction legislation, and those calls only escalated after the previous London bombing in November, in which a former inmate convicted of terrorism murders two people and wounded three more before police shot him dead.

Johnson said that since that attack, the government has "acted swiftly to pass a package of measures to strengthen every factor in our response to terrorism - including longer prison sentences and a larger budget for the police."

The terrorist was jailed yesterday for promoting violent Islamist propaganda and even encouraged his girlfriend to behead her parents. He was under surveillance even after he was released from prison. Authorities said he began terrorist activity at age 17 while he was still living at home with his mother and younger siblings.

Police began to find out about his activities in April 2018, and he was arrested by armed police on a street in north London a month later. In scanning his computers and cellphone, they found that he had downloaded explosives and terrorist attacks.

His messages revealed that he was discussing his family, friends, and girlfriend with his extreme views and desire to carry out an attack, often focusing on knife use.

In December 2017, he posted a picture of "Islamic State" (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and wrote to his brother that "Islamic State is here to stay." He also described Yazidi women as less and said that the Qur'an left their rape. In another message, he encouraged his girlfriend to behead her parents. In one of his conversations with his brother, according to police, he said he would rather "blow himself up" than attend school.
