The cause of the smoldering fire in an old farmhouse in Perchting remains unclear.
Perchting - Investigators from the Kripo wanted to investigate the location of the fire on Monday, where up to 75 firefighters were on duty until 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, but other interventions came in between. A spokesman for the Oberbayern Nord police headquarters said on request that the fire investigators wanted to go to Perchting on Tuesday. A technical defect could have been the cause, but there are several other possible reasons. The damage amounts to at least 200,000 euros.
The residents, a couple with two small children, had been away for a few days and returned in the early Sunday afternoon. When they opened the door, smoke came towards them. They immediately called the fire department, who found that a fire was eating through a wooden ceiling between the ground and first floors. The emergency services had to open the ceiling. Perchting's commanding officer and head of operations, Sven Vermehren, had even blown the supporting beams. The THW supported the ceiling, only then could the fire-fighting teams break open other parts of the ceiling and extinguish embers.
The house is uninhabitable until further notice - not only because there is a huge hole in the ceiling, but also because the smoke has left its mark. The family of four stayed with relatives.
