Economy Minister Martín Guzmán met today with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, to continue discussions to restructure the payment of the approximately 44,000 million dollars that Argentina must return to That multilateral credit agency.
“We had a very constructive meeting with the IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva. We continue with the conversations already started with the agency, in a framework of growing mutual understanding, "said the official.
The meeting, which took place within the framework of an economic seminar organized by the Vatican, lasted more than two and a half hours . And also the secretary of Strategic Affairs, Gustavo Béliz , and the representative of the Southern Cone before the IMF board, Sergio Chodos, among others.
Guzmán added that with the head of the IMF they exchanged "opinions on the economic program under way, distinguishing between measures to deal with the current economic emergency situation and those for solving structural problems of the economy."
"We also discuss the ongoing policies to resolve the sovereign debt crisis in a sustainable way, " he said.
This was the first meeting between Guzmán and Georgieva, and it takes place after the meetings that the Argentine official held in New York last week with IMF representatives.
"During the talk with Georgieva we shared the diagnosis of the pressing socio-economic situation facing our country and we agree that the measures adopted by our government must continue to pursue the objectives of reassuring the economy and protecting those who are in a situation of greater vulnerability as a point starting for a sustainable development path, ”added Guzmán.
And he stressed that both agreed "to continue deepening the dialogue next week, when the mission of the IMF technical team visits Argentina."
