Geneva-Sana
Ghassan Salama, the United Nations special envoy to Libya, announced that representatives of the Libyan parties meeting in Geneva agreed on the principle of turning the armistice into a permanent ceasefire.
"The principle has been adopted from the first session, it is now up to determining its conditions," Salameh was quoted by AFP as saying to reporters.
The United Nations announced yesterday that the representatives are five senior officers appointed by the government of reconciliation and five others appointed by the Libyan armed forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Hifter met in Geneva within the framework of a joint military committee sponsored by the international organization.
Salama last week condemned the continued external interference in Libya's affairs despite the decisions of the Berlin Conference.
It is noteworthy that the final statement of the Berlin conference, which was signed by about 16 countries and organizations on the 19th of last month on resolving the crisis in Libya, stressed the international efforts to strengthen control of the arms embargo to Libya and disarm the militias, calling on all parties to distance themselves from the groups listed on the list.
