More silence on the road and less air pollution. Sometimes criticized because of the additional cars deployed on the streets, companies connecting with private drivers try to respond with less polluting alternatives.
There is currently no real environmental impact study in France of the traffic of fleets of cars with thermal engines from "partner drivers" of Uber, Kapten or Bolt. But, across the Atlantic, California has established that a chauffeur-driven passenger car emission emits 50% more greenhouse gases per passenger per mile (or 1.6 km) than the average vehicle of an individual.
Until now, only the French platform Marcel has used a fleet of 500 electrically propelled cars and has highlighted the virtues of this mode of locomotion.
The same price as for thermal
Latest initiative for more eco-responsible journeys, the Franco-German company Kapten launches this Wednesday the first booking offer for 600 100% electric vehicles in Île-de-France. The ride is billed at the same rate as a standard trip.
"We want to go even further in our responsibility with regard to pollution, because a hybrid car only reduces CO2 emissions by 20%," says Antoine Lieutaud, general manager of Kapten France. A first small step towards clean mobility, because a total of 25,000 drivers are registered in the Paris region on the platform.
To switch to a less polluting vehicle, Kapten put volunteer drivers in contact with specialized rental agencies, in particular to drive a Nissan Leaf. But also by offering a welcome bonus of 250 euros.
The French market leader, Uber, displays a “Green” offer with hybrid and electric combined, at the same price as a petrol vehicle. This represents 10% of the 30,000 independent drivers registered on the American platform.

The third player in VTC platforms, Bolt claims that electric cars represent 2% of the total number of vehicles registered on the application. This goes up to 20% if we include hybrid models, like the popular Toyota Prius.
