Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum met Marshal Khalifa Haftar, a strongman from eastern Libya, in his stronghold of Benghazi, as part of Algiers' mediation efforts between rival camps vying for control from Libya.

The two discussed the "latest developments" in Libya and the "role of Algeria in supporting the return of stability" in this war-torn country. Marshal Haftar praised "the positive role of the Algerian state which is working to find a solution to the crisis" in Libya.
Last Thursday, in Brazzaville, Algeria offered to host a "national reconciliation forum" between protagonists of the crisis in Libya, according to the African Union (AU) committee responsible for "finding solutions" to the conflict.
