On Sunday, March 15, 2020, the Dachau district elects a new head of the district office. A second ballot will probably take place two weeks later, on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Because: With a total of six candidates, it seems rather unlikely that one of the applicants will get the required majority of more than 50 percent of the votes in the first ballot. Then the two candidates with the best result of the first round will be put into a run-off election, the date of which determines the right to vote.

Here we present all candidates for the office of the Dachau district administrator.

District election 2020: Stefan Löwl (CSU)

Stefan Löwl (46) takes over for the CSU as incumbent district administrator for this post again. Löwl studied law in Augsburg and was politically active in his youth, but for a long time had not pursued his own political career, as he reports about himself on his website.

In 2014, he had just won his current office as district administrator in a run-off election with 50.13% of the vote. Even then he had to face a runoff election, which he won against the SPD member of parliament, Martin Güll. He was already well acquainted with the Dachau district office: from 2010 to 2013 he worked there as head of environmental protection. The practicing Catholic is married and has three children with his wife Bettina.

From his party, the CSU, of which he has been a member since 1995, he was nominated in October with a result of 97.6% for a further candidacy as district administrator. In an interview, he spoke about the challenges of growth in the Dachau district, housing shortages and infrastructure, which he has already dealt with in his current term. In terms of traffic policy, Löwl is focusing on the further expansion of public transport and the construction of bypasses. With regard to construction measures, he especially wants to further develop the town centers and make them more attractive. Löwl believes that space is becoming scarce, and space-saving building or building at height is becoming increasingly important.

He was also elected unanimously and has been a member of the district council since 2014, where he is the group leader of his party. It is not his first political office: from 2004 to 2012, Leiß was a member of the Dachau Youth Council.

The Dachauer works for a medium-sized personnel service provider as a business economist and is responsible for around 50 employees.

A better citizen service and solid district and city finances are just as much part of his political agenda as a better and more realistic transport policy and the expansion of schools and hospitals.

District election 2020: Jonathan Westermeier (left)

Jonathan Westermeier was already a candidate for the state parliament and is currently spokesman for the "Fridays for Future" movement Dachau. He was nominated by his party Die Linke and the satirical party Die Party in joint cooperation as a candidate for the district administrator. Even if, according to his own statements, he sees his chances for the office as not very realistic, he sees the election campaign as a good opportunity to put pressure on the other parties. In an interview with the Dachauer Nachrichten, he says: "Of course I don't have a chance to win the election." However, he sees a chance that "many people will listen to him and some topics will become more and more important. So maybe something will change, at least in small parts, if the officers take up some suggestions. "Nevertheless, he does not want to be banned from dreaming:" A left district administrator in Bavaria - that would be absolutely cool! "

The 27-year-old from Karlsfeld works as an IT engineer and part-time as a university lecturer for IT.

Among other things, his political agenda provides for new approaches in transport, which, however, are not based on bans, but on a successful counter offer to individual transport. He emphasizes: "I cannot stigmatize people who still drive a car if I don't offer a good alternative." Westermeier believes it is more necessary to make public transport more attractive and affordable. His work also focuses on nature conservation, in particular climate protection, of course, education and digitalization.

Above all, his goals are to make political decisions that will not take effect until 2030, as he accuses the current district administrator Löwl. In his view, the energy transition, species protection or approaches to cheap living space are still only being considered instead of already being implemented. The same applies to the topic of traffic. He finally wanted to advance decisions.
